The short version: On the free analyzer, your free score is generated on our servers from the code or files you submit; we do not store that input after scoring unless you upgrade to Interactive Code Review. A companion Chrome extension is in development (not publicly available yet) — see below.
For the free Patent PreCheck Score on the website, your pasted text, uploaded file, or GitHub import selection — whether code, a document, notes, or a conversation export — is sent to our servers for analysis (including our AI scoring provider) and is not stored in our database after your score is generated. We do not retain the full text of your submission in our systems. Your full GitHub selection may remain in your browser tab until you close it or upgrade; we do not copy it server-side for the free check.
If you choose Import from GitHub on the free analyzer or re-import during Interactive Code Review signup, you authorize our GitHub App to read only the repository paths you select via GitHub’s Contents API. We receive file contents for scoring and coaching — not your entire repository, commit history, or issues. For the free score we also store non-content metadata tied to your report (repository owner and name, branch or ref, and selected file paths) so you can re-import the same selection at signup; we do not store file contents from the free check. If you upgrade to Interactive Code Review, we store the imported code text you submit (paste_input) for up to 30 days as described below.
To provide our core service — including project-specific legal change alerts — we retain a structured analysis profile derived from your submission. This profile contains no code, no text from your document, and no personally identifying content from your file. It consists solely of:
When new case law, USPTO guidance, or other U.S. IP developments occur, we compare each development against stored risk flags to determine who it may affect. For example:
international_distribution: trueai_contribution_level: medium or hightechnology_domain: softwareWe never use a stored profile to reconstruct your original code, document, or conversation. The flags are categorical — they describe characteristics of your work without containing any of its content.
If you purchase Interactive Code Review or Portfolio, we store your name, email, report IDs, optional project labels, and entitlements (e.g. which codebases you have paid to review) so we can restore your sessions and billing. You may request deletion of your customer data at any time by emailing info@patentprecheck.com.
If you use the free score without creating an account, we store an anonymous analysis profile tied to a session token for up to 48 hours. After 48 hours, the anonymous profile is permanently deleted. We cannot send you legal change alerts without an account, as we have no way to contact you.
Patent PreCheck is a web service that helps software developers assess patentability and prepare filing-ready materials. A companion Chrome extension for local AI-conversation journaling is in development but not yet publicly released. Patent PreCheck is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.
For questions about this Privacy Policy, contact us at: info@patentprecheck.com
When released, the companion extension will process the following data entirely within your Chrome browser and store it using Chrome's local storage API on your device:
This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to Patent PreCheck servers, cloud storage, or any third party.
If you create an account or subscribe to a paid plan, we collect:
On our public marketing pages (for example, the homepage, pricing, and blog), we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic — page views, referrers, and general device/browser categories. Google may set cookies or use similar technologies; see Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Analytics opt-out. We do not send your pasted invention code, coach answers, or paid-session content to Google Analytics.
If we run paid advertising, we may also use Google Ads conversion tags and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel on marketing and checkout-confirmation pages to measure sign-ups and purchases. Those tools may set cookies or use similar technologies when enabled. We pass only campaign attribution (for example, which ad you clicked) — not your invention source code — to our own signup and lead-capture systems. You can limit ad tracking through your browser settings, Meta ad preferences, or Google ad settings.
We use this data only to improve the product (for example, which pages help people start a free score). It is not sold and is not used for advertising retargeting.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your conversation content for advertising. We do not train AI models on your data.
This section applies specifically to the paid Interactive Code Review service. It is separate from the free Patent PreCheck Score, where your uploaded code is analyzed and immediately discarded without ever being stored on our servers.
When you purchase and use an Interactive Code Review, we store the following on our servers:
paste_input) — including text fetched from GitHub paths you selectNote: Drawing uploads you add during a session are stored as part of your filing package deliverables and retained under the same Session Window and deletion policy as your other paid-session data (below).
Paid session content is stored encrypted at rest in our Neon Postgres database. All data is transmitted between your browser and our servers over HTTPS.
If you ask us to email your free Patent PreCheck score, we store: the email address you provide, the score metadata generated by our engine (patentability score, filing readiness score, five USPTO requirement scores (§101–§112), top recommendations, narrative summary, technical domain hint, and report identifiers), the timestamp of your check, whether you opted in to legal-change alerts, and a record of any unsubscribe requests.
We do not store the code, document, or content you submitted for the free analysis. That input is processed on our servers for scoring and discarded once your score is generated. If you used GitHub import, we may retain repo/ref/path metadata (not file contents) with your report so you can re-import at signup.
We use this information only to (a) deliver the score email you requested, (b) send legal-change alerts if you opted in, and (c) honor your unsubscribe and data-deletion requests. We do not sell, rent, or share this information with third parties.
When we email your score, we include a “View online” link of the form https://patentprecheck.com/r/{token}. The token is a cryptographically random 32-character identifier that cannot reasonably be guessed. Anyone with the link can view the report; treat the link as sensitive. You can revoke an individual link from the report page at any time, or unsubscribe to remove all data we hold about you.
To delete your data entirely, use the unsubscribe link in any email or contact info@patentprecheck.com from the address you want removed. We process deletion requests within 30 days.
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except:
We do not share your conversation content, journal entries, or filing data with any third party under any circumstances.
When the extension is available, conversation content and journal entries will be stored in Chrome's local storage on your device — not transmitted to our servers. Account data (name, email, billing) for the web service is stored on secure servers with industry-standard encryption. We use HTTPS for all data transmission.
Patent PreCheck is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, by email if you have an account with us.
